TIL a 3am photo shoot at Cherry Springs made me stop chasing gear
Honestly, I used to think my $2,000 telescope was the whole problem. Last month I drove up to Cherry Springs State Park and this guy next to me had a beat-up 8-inch Dobsonian from the 90s. He pointed it at the Veil Nebula and just let me look, no astrophotography rig, no tracking mount. Then he said, 'the sky does the work if you let it.' That night I shot 40 minutes of untracked widefield with my old DSLR and got more keepers than I ever got with my fancy setup. Has anyone else ditched their expensive gear after a night like that?

Wait until you try binoculars, that's when you realize the sky was always the expensive part...
