Been using a DA with too much pressure for 2 years, a neighbor finally said something

I was out in my garage working on a fender from a 2017 Civic, just grinding away with my DA sander like I always do. My neighbor who runs a body shop walked over and asked why I was pushing so hard, said I was basically fighting the tool. How much pressure do you guys actually use when sanding down filler?

Yeah the part about "fighting the tool" really hit home for me. I used to do the same thing until a buddy told me to let the weight of the sander do the work and just guide it with a light touch. Best advice I ever got, my arms stopped hurting and the filler came out way flatter with less waves.

I mean, it's sanding filler, not brain surgery. Hard to see how pushing too hard is some major life lesson when you could just... not push so hard and figure it out after a few tries. Glad your arms feel better though.
