Update: a zip tie on the bleeder screw fixed a brake job that had me stuck for 2 hours
Had a 2014 Civic in the shop last Tuesday with a soft pedal after I did pads and rotors, and I could not get the air out no matter how many times I bled it. My coworker Ray walked over and wrapped a zip tie around the bleeder screw to keep it from backing out under pressure, then had me pump the pedal slow instead of fast. Three pumps later the pedal was rock hard and we were done in 10 minutes. That trick has saved me twice since then on other cars. Has anyone else used the zip tie thing on bleeders, or do you just replace the screw every time?
Man, zip ties are the duct tape of the shop I swear. Had a power steering line on an old Ranger that was weeping at the fitting, and I wrapped a zip tie around it just to get the truck home one night. That was two years ago and it's still holding, I keep meaning to fix it right but never do. Ray sounds like the guy every shop needs.
