Showerthought: my car shipping quote dropped $275 just by changing the pickup day from Friday to a Tuesday
I got three quotes to move my Subaru from Phoenix to Denver last month and they all hovered around $900. Out of curiosity I asked the dispatcher what a Tuesday pickup would cost instead of a Friday, and he knocked it down to $625 on the spot. Turns out carriers hate weekend pickups because drivers sit around waiting on loads, so midweek slots get way better rates. Has anyone else messed with their pickup window to save money, or did I just get lucky with this one guy?
625 bucks is a steal and all you did was pick a Tuesday, which is honestly hilarious when you think about it. I bet those carriers are sitting in some truck stop parking lot on a Saturday just watching the money drain out of their pockets. My cousin moved a car from Tucson to Salt Lake and the guy literally told him the same thing about midweek slots being cheaper. So no, you didn't just get lucky, the whole system is rigged against people who want to move stuff on the weekend.
