Hot take: a 20 year hangar vet in Wichita got on me for torque wrench habits
He caught me leaving my clicker set at 40 in-lbs overnight in my box and asked if I wanted to keep guessing at preload, so now I back it off to zero after every job and log it on the tag, and honestly I want to know how many of you actually do this or if I'm the only one who had to be shamed into it.
Why would you leave it wound up at 40 all night? That spring is sitting there tired for no reason. A clicker is a measuring tool, not a clamp you store with a load on it. Backing it to zero takes two seconds and your tag log costs nothing. I have seen guys chase a bad torque reading for a whole shift because somebody stored theirs hot. Do it once and it just becomes part of putting your box away. Good on the old guy for speaking up.
