My hangar lead told me my wire bundles looked like spaghetti and I've been lacing them by hand ever since
So about 8 months back my lead walks past my bench at the hangar in Wichita and just stares at the bundle I'm building. Doesn't say a word for like 10 seconds. Then he goes "you know we got a whole drawer of lacing tape right?" I had been zip tying everything because it was fast and I figured it was fine. He pulls one of my runs and the tie had dented the insulation on a 20 AWG wire. Nothing bad, but enough that he made me redo the whole section.
Now I lace em by hand with the waxed tape and yeah it takes twice as long but the runs come out clean and uniform. He also showed me the trick of leaving a little slack on the last knot so it doesn't pull tight when the airframe flexes.
Any of you still using zip ties on signal runs or did everyone switch to lacing a while ago? Curious what shops around here are doing.
