A vendor's 5-year contract advice saved us $18k, but only by luck
Last spring our office manager pushed us to sign a 5-year deal with a logistics broker, saying rates would jump 30% year over year. I fought it hard, thought he was just chasing a commission. Turns out he had a cousin at the port who tipped him about a container fee spike coming in Q3. We locked in at $2.10 per mile and now the spot market is pushing $2.60. My question is, how do you vet advice that sounds like a hunch but ends up being gold? Has anyone else had a supplier or partner give a recommendation that seemed self-serving but actually paid off?
Man, that's a wild story and honestly kind of refreshing to hear. It's so easy to write off advice like that as someone just covering their own back, especially when there's a commission involved. Glad it worked out for you, and hopefully your office manager gets a little more benefit of the doubt next time.
