Found out the AT thru hike takes 2,190 miles and most quit before mile 500
Saw that stat on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy site and it hit me hard, because I bailed at mile 312 outside Gatlinburg and felt like a total failure. Does anyone else think the trail gets way harder right after the Smokies, or was I just not ready for the rain?
That "most quit before mile 500" line is brutal but weirdly makes me feel better about tapping out at 312 too. The Smokies wrecked me, honestly the rain after that stretch never let up and my gear was soaked for like a week straight. You weren't not ready, that section is just a whole different beast once the easy bubble vibes wear off.
