I think the PCT is way overrated for beginner backpackers
Everyone pushes the Pacific Crest Trail like it's the only option, but I've met so many people who quit in the first 100 miles because the desert section is brutal and boring. Why not start with something like the Colorado Trail where you get consistent water and views from day one? Who else thinks the PCT hype hurts more than it helps?

Oh man, I'm the fool who thought the desert would be a nice warm-up and ended up hating my life by mile 50 lmao. Learned that one the hard way for sure.

hated my life by mile 50" is the most real thing I've seen all day lol. That desert heat just hits different when it's your first time. You think you're ready but then the sun just cooks you from the inside out. Next time pack extra salt tabs and don't be a hero with your water, sip it constant even if you don't feel thirsty. The sand gets in everything too, I found it in my ears for like a week after. Once you survive that stretch though every other section feels easy by comparison.
