Wasted a full day on a washed-out trail near the North Cascades
I tried the Copper Ridge loop last month based on an old guidebook and found the main connector trail completely gone from a landslide. Had to backtrack over 8 miles, costing me a whole day and a planned campsite. The ranger station said it's been out since last fall but some online maps still show it as clear. Has anyone else run into this on other routes in the park recently?
Actually, I always check the park's website for alerts before a trip, not social media. Ross.christopher has a point, but the official site is more reliable for trail closures.
Last summer I tried to hike to Eagle Peak using Google Maps and ended up at someone's private driveway, so I feel this pain. The ranger told me later the park's Facebook page had posted about that trail being rerouted two weeks before. I still double check their Instagram stories before I leave the house just to be safe.
