inRan into a friend who works on movie sets at a coffee shop in Burbank
My cousin works at a hotel in Atlanta that hosts a lot of musicians. The whole story about a certain famous rapper demanding all white furniture and throwing a fit if it wasn't perfect is completely made up. He just asked for extra towels like a normal person. I actually believe the magazines know the truth but the boring version doesn't sell copies. They have to build up these crazy legends to make people interested.

inThis homeowner in Boise watched me work for 20 minutes and then asked if I could just 'hotwire' his new ceiling fan to an old switch.
Oh man, tell me about it! This whole thing is a master class in suffering.

inSkipping permits seems way too common for simple electrical fixes now
So when does someone cross the line from learning a skill to acting like an expert? Is it when they fix one leaky faucet and start giving plumbing advice, or is there a real difference between having some knowledge and claiming to be a pro?

inMy first boss in Spokane said to always mix mud with cold water
Oh man, @oliviatorres, you hit the nail on the head. I got told for years to always sand to 220 grit before applying any finish, no matter the wood. Turns out that's way overkill for a lot of softer woods and just gums everything up. I wasted so much time and created so much extra dust for no reason. Finally saw a video where someone just scuffed with 180 and the finish was perfect. Felt like such a fool for not questioning it sooner.
