My neighbor in Tucson said he hasn't cleaned his pond filter in 2 years
Told me he just dropped 12 feeder goldfish in and let the plants do the rest. Now I'm wondering if I've been overworking my setup this whole time, anyone else running a low maintenance pond like that?
My pond in Austin has a filter that I rinse every single weekend like it's a religion, and last month I pulled out enough sludge to fill a coffee can. Meanwhile this guy in Tucson is basically running a swamp with 12 goldfish and calling it a system. I spent 200 bucks on a UV clarifier last spring because I saw one cloudy afternoon and panicked. Pretty sure the fish would have been FINE. Some of us are out here doing the most while our neighbors do nothing and somehow get clearer water.
