I used to dump a handful of food in twice a day because they always acted hungry, but he told me I was fouling the water and stressing them out. Now I feed once in the morning and they actually seem more active, anyone else had to dial back their feeding routine?
Did you notice a big change in your water clarity after cutting back? I did the same thing with my goldfish years ago, was throwing in food every time they swam up to the glass like little beggars. Turns out they will eat until they pop, it does not mean they need it. Once I went to one small feeding a day the ammonia spikes stopped and the water finally stayed clear. The trick is feeding only what they can finish in like two minutes, anything left over just sinks and rots.
