Vent: my pump died at 2am and the whole pond went green in 3 days
Woke up last Tuesday to that awful grinding hum and found my 8 year old pump had seized up solid in the skimmer box. I figured I had a few days to order a new one, but by Friday the water was pea soup and I could barely see my koi. Drove to the pond place in Lexington and the guy there told me to stop chasing the pump and just add a temporary sponge filter plus a cheap air stone to keep things moving. Has anyone else had a filter crash on them like that, and did you get the water clear again without draining the whole thing?
How big is the pond and what's your fish load? That matters a lot here. If you're running 8 koi in 1000 gallons that green water is gonna stick around way longer than a sponge and an airstone can fix. Also what did the water test show, ammonia and nitrite numbers specifically? Green water is just algae eating the sunlight and nutrients, the real worry is what the dead filter did to your ammonia spike.
