I tried writing about a character who finds a single red mitten in the snow and it unlocked a whole week of terrible writer's block.

Yeah, I read a blog post once where someone said their killer prompt was just "a locked door." They spent days trying to decide what was behind it, who locked it, and why it mattered, and wrote zero actual story. It's crazy how the smallest, simplest idea can make your brain spin in circles trying to make it perfect. What was the first thing you overthought with that mitten?

I used to think a little slack in the governor rope was fine

Hold up, you saw it JUMP the sheave? On a 15 story drop? That's not a close call, that's a full-on horror movie scene. A quarter inch of slack on a governor rope is basically an invitation for disaster. I get chills just picturing that cable popping off and whipping around. That logbook note from the last guy is the scariest part, like a ghost from bad habits past. Makes you triple check everything now, doesn't it?

I keep seeing people in Chiang Mai pay $50 a month for a sim card when you can get one for $8

My $50 plan in Bangkok gives me truly unlimited data.

When my dad visits, he always reorganizes my service van

Honestly debating if tape is blue or green sounds like a bigger problem than the tools. Just write the name on the spot like @blairm93 said and be done with it. This isn't a library system, it's a van.

Why does nobody talk about the sheer boredom of waiting for fare drops?

So you got the cheap fare, but do you ever look back and feel like you traded too much of your free time just to save that money? I mean, months is a long time to have that tab open, checking it like a chore. I wonder if the trip itself feels different when you finally go, or if all that waiting just makes you tired before you even leave.
