My neighbor's shed went from a total mess to super organized in about 3 weeks

He used to have everything just piled inside, but now he built a simple wall system with 2x4s and plywood shelves. Do you think it's better to build custom storage or just buy a pre-made rack system for a basic 10x12 shed?

My shed looks like a tornado hit it, so either way is a win.

Look at my shed and tell me if the floor joists even matter anymore. I've got so much junk piled up that the whole structure is basically one big, sad storage rack. At this point, I'd be happy if the floor just agreed to hold the shed itself together. Building custom shelving sounds great, but first I'd have to find the floor under all the chaos.

Honestly, the biggest thing people miss is the shed floor itself... a custom build lets you anchor right into the floor joists for serious strength. Those pre-made racks often just sit on the floorboards, which can sag over time with heavy stuff like tools or paint cans. Building it yourself means you can make the bottom shelf extra strong for the really heavy items. It's a bit more work up front, but it saves a headache later when your storage doesn't buckle under the weight.
