PSA: Stop stacking your garden tools on the ground, it's killing your shed space

I was tired of tripping over rakes and shovels every time I opened my 8x10 shed in Phoenix. Tried those cheap hook strips from the hardware store but they kept falling off in the heat. Finally just screwed a 2x4 across the wall and drilled holes to slide the handles through. Takes 20 minutes and now I can actually walk in there without busting my shin. Anyone else got a better way to hold long tools?

I did the 2x4 trick in my Phoenix garage too and it's held up great for two years now. The key for me was drilling the holes at a slight angle so the handles stay put even when I'm grabbing them in a hurry. That simple fix saved me so much shed space I actually fit my wheelbarrow in there now.

Yeah I'll admit I was super skeptical about the whole angled hole thing at first! @jenny_lane12 your 2x4 trick convinced me to try it last weekend and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I used a 15 degree angle on my holes and now my rakes don't fly out every time I bump the wall. Seriously game changer for keeping the garage organized.
