Shoutout to the firefighter who saw my shed setup
I used to keep my propane tank and gas cans right next to the shed door for easy access. A firefighter friend came over for a BBQ last spring, took one look, and said 'You're asking for trouble.' He showed me how to build a simple cinder block and plywood locker 10 feet away from the shed. Now I keep all my fuel there, and I sleep way better. Has anyone else had to redo their fuel storage after a safety tip?

That cinder block locker is a solid move. We see a lot of sheds go up fast because people keep gas and mowers together. The big thing is that vapor is heavier than air, it sinks and pools. If your water heater pilot light is in that shed, those fumes can find it. Keeping it outside in a vented box stops that pool from forming. Ten feet is the minimum, farther is better if you have the space.

I mean my neighbor keeps his gas can right next to his dryer vent and it gives me the creeps.
