The $12 shelf bracket trick that doubled my shed space

My 6x8 shed in Toledo was a disaster, stuff piled to the ceiling but I couldn't find anything. I tried plastic bins, hanging hooks, even a pegboard, nothing clicked. Then I bolted heavy duty shelf brackets to the studs and laid old closet doors across them, it gave me two full upper levels for about $12 a bracket. Has anyone else built attic-style storage in a low shed without losing floor room for the mower?

Did your brackets go straight into the studs or did you have to shim anything? My buddy Dave did the same thing in his 8x10 and the door boards sagged right in the middle, so he had to add a 2x4 support post down to the floor. Took him an afternoon to fix but now he can park his ATV under the shelf and still walk around it.
