The side door on my metal shed literally just fell off yesterday
I went out to grab my lawnmower yesterday afternoon and the whole side door on my beat up metal shed just came off the hinges. One of the pins rusted through over the winter I guess and the door just sagged and dropped. This is the same shed I got from a guy on Craigslist three years ago for like 80 bucks. I thought I got a deal but now I'm wondering if it's even worth trying to fix because the frame around the door is all bent up too. I ended up just leaning the door against the side of the shed for now and hoping it doesn't fall over onto my dog. Has anyone ever tried those aftermarket replacement doors for those basic metal sheds or should I just cut my losses and look for something sturdier?

Have you thought about just flipping that door around and using it as a makeshift ramp or something? Those metal sheds are basically tin cans with bolts, so trying to match a new door to that bent frame is going to be a headache. People spend more time fighting that warped metal than the door is worth, and a new one probably costs half what you paid for the whole shed. Sounds like the real problem is that the floor is probably rusting out too, so you might be better off just saving for a plastic resin one that won't turn into a pile of scrap. Your dog might appreciate not having a door land on him, that's for sure.

Has that plastic resin shed held up better for you? I keep hearing mixed things about them getting brittle in the cold and cracking when snow piles up on the roof. My buddy had a plastic one that split right down the side after one bad winter, and he was out there with duct tape trying to patch it back together. Kind of makes me wonder if there's any middle ground that doesn't turn into a headache after a year or two.

My neighbor tried that ramp idea with his shed door, except he leaned it against his truck to slide a generator down and the thing buckled like wet cardboard. @the_oliver's right about those metal sheds being tin cans - I watched a guy on my street spend three weekends trying to wrestle a replacement door onto one, and his dog stayed inside the house the whole time.
