He told me to start shopping, and I blew him off until a guy at a gas station in Tulsa pointed at my front tire and asked if I knew it was bald. If you are sitting at 3/32 or below, you are looking at about 2/32 before you are legally done in most states, so how do you all decide when it is actually time to swap them out?
That line about the guy in Tulsa pointing at your front tire is the real warning sign, once someone else notices you're past the point of guessing. I ran mine down to about 3/32 last fall and told myself I'd deal with it before the rain came, then the first hard storm had me sliding on the interstate and I got them swapped the next morning. 2/32 might keep you legal but it won't keep you out of a ditch, so I just use 4/32 as my own cut off now.
