Pro tip: labeling each step in a bad take with a number killed my 2 hour argument with my brother
My brother sent me a video last Tuesday where some guy claimed rent is high because of avocado toast, and we have argued about stuff like this for 2 hours before with nothing to show for it. So this time I wrote the claim at the top of a note, then listed each step under it, 1 through 5, and next to each number I put the fact that breaks it. Step 3 fell apart the fastest because the guy's own chart showed rents climbing since 2001, way before anyone was buying $9 toast. My brother read the whole thing in about 4 minutes and just replied 'yeah ok' which has never happened in 30 years of us doing this. Does anyone else have a format that keeps these things from turning into a fight?
Does your brother actually read long texts or did the numbered list finally make it short enough for him? My sister and I have the same problem where we both just start yelling points back and forth and nobody remembers what the argument was even about. The numbered thing sounds smart because it makes the other person deal with each point one at a time instead of jumping around. I feel for you on the 30 years part, that is a long time to never hear "yeah ok.
