My sourdough starter turned pink and fuzzy overnight
I left it on the counter in my Houston kitchen during a humid week and came back to something that looked like a science experiment, so I tossed the whole batch and started over with a new jar - has anyone else had a starter go bad in warm weather?

Did you try storing it in the fridge during that humid spell?

Oh man I actually forgot about it in there for three days and it got all slimy on me.

Jeez, that pink fuzzy stuff is nasty. I'm in Florida so I feel your pain on the humidity factor. But here's what I gotta ask - was your jar completely clean and dry when you started the new batch? Because if there was any moisture trapped in there before you added the flour and water, you're basically inviting that mold party to start all over again. I learned that one the hard way after tossing three starters in one summer. Also, what kind of flour are you using? Bleached all-purpose seems to go bad faster in this weather compared to whole wheat or rye.
