Finally fixed a squeaky floor with a trick from a guy in Ohio

I had this one spot in my hallway that drove me nuts every time I walked over it. Tried baby powder and carpet powder, nothing worked for more than a day. Then a contractor in a Home Depot in Columbus told me to try a flooring screw with a special bit that countersinks itself. I picked up a box of 50 for like 12 bucks, drove a few in through the carpet, and that squeak has been gone for 3 months now. Anybody else stumbled onto a fix that simple?

Picked a gas grill over charcoal 6 months ago and I'm still second-guessing it

I was set on buying a Weber charcoal kettle for $150 until my buddy talked me into a used gas grill for $75 from Facebook Marketplace. The gas one heats up in 10 minutes and is way easier to clean, but I swear the burgers don't taste the same as when I used a chimney starter. I've cooked about 30 meals on it now and the convenience is nice, but I miss that smoky flavor. Did anyone else feel stuck between budget and taste when picking a grill? What did you choose and did you regret it?

Picked up a thrift store rice cooker for $6 and it changed my meal prep

I found a beat-up Zojirushi at a Goodwill in Portland last month and figured why not try it. Been using it to batch cook beans and lentils along with rice, saves me like $15 a week on canned stuff. Anyone else got a thrift store kitchen tool that just works?

PSA: Spent 4 hours on a miter joint that should have taken 20 minutes

Was building a custom picture frame for a client in Austin. Simple 45 degree miter joints, right? Except my miter saw was off by 1.2 degrees and I didnt check it. Kept getting gaps no matter how I adjusted. Finally broke out the digital angle finder and found the issue. Felt like a total idiot but hey, lesson learned. Anyone else had a tool mess with their head like this?

That viral 'bullet journal' method wrecked my productivity for 6 months

I jumped on the bandwagon hard, bought all the colored pens and washi tape, and ended up spending more time decorating pages than actually writing anything down. After I went back to a plain notebook and a single pen last October, I finally got my to-do list done for the first time in half a year. Anyone else find the aesthetic part of trends kills the whole purpose?

Why does nobody talk about how hard it is to find raw data on local tree species decline?

I spent 4 hours last Tuesday digging through county ag extension websites for old growth oak numbers in my area and hit nothing but dead links. Has anyone actually gotten a straight answer from those biodiversity databases or am I missing something obvious?

Took me 3 tries to get a wooden insert to fit in my Tainted Grail box

I dunno why I thought cutting foam core for a custom insert would be easy. First try I measured wrong and the whole thing was too loose, pieces sliding around everywhere. Second try I glued everything before checking fit and it bulged the lid up by a quarter inch. Finally on the third go I cut everything dry first, test fit it piece by piece, then glued it. Has anyone else ruined a perfectly good foam sheet by rushing the measurements?

Saw that viral 'miracle water filter' video and dug into the company behind it

I used to share those Facebook videos of people claiming their $30 filter turns muddy water crystal clear. Then last month I actually looked up the company's Better Business Bureau record and found 47 complaints about the cartridges clogging after 2 weeks. One guy even posted lab results showing the filter didn't remove lead or bacteria like the ad said. Has anyone else found hard evidence on one of these products?
