Can we talk about the first time you had to fix a really bad home haircut?

A client came in yesterday with a line his wife tried to fix using kitchen scissors, and blending it out took me 45 minutes instead of 15. Do you guys charge extra for major fixes or just eat the time?

Just saw kitchen scissors and flinched. I absolutely charge extra for that kind of rescue mission.

Yeah, that flinch is totally earned.

What do you even say to someone when they walk in with kitchen shears damage? I had a guy last month who tried to fade his own hair with clippers and no guard. I charged him my full correction fee, which is basically my normal haircut price plus half again. That extra covers the time and the headache. It also makes people think twice before trying it themselves next time.

Read a story once about a stylist who had to fix a haircut done with actual garden shears. The client's husband tried to give him a trim in the backyard. The stylist said the hair was so uneven it looked like a topographical map. She charged double her normal rate and it took two hours. Some people just see a sharp object and lose their minds.
