That moment I realized I was over-combing the same spot for 5 years
I was doing a fade on a regular last Tuesday and he just casually said 'you know you keep going over that same patch on my left side, right?' So I stopped and looked and yeah, I was chasing a line that was already clean. Turns out I'd been doing that exact thing since barber school in 2019. Anyone else catch themselves overworking a section without realizing it?

and honestly that's part of why i always take a picture with my phone halfway through. i'll look at it and be like wait that left side actually looks fine but now his crown is completely jacked. the tunnel vision is real but the camera doesn't lie. plus if you catch it on the photo you can fix it before the client gets down and looks in the mirror themselves.

Does it feel like once you lock into that spot your brain just stops seeing what's actually there? I've had that happen where I'm so focused on perfecting one tiny area that I miss the rest of the head looking rough. Sometimes stepping back for a second is the only way to catch yourself.

Dude yes, absolutely. I'll be staring at the same eyebrow for 20 minutes thinking it's perfect and then realize the whole jawline is completely wrong. It's like my brain just tunnels in and ignores everything else.
