My tiling was all wrong for years until I noticed the grout lines
I spent 3 years tiling bathroom floors and always ended up with uneven gaps that drove me crazy. One day I was looking at a buddy's remodel he did and saw his lines were perfect every time. He asked if I was using spacers and I said no, I just eyeballed it (like an idiot). Turns out those little plastic spacers cost like $5 for a bag and they changed everything. Now I use the 1/8th inch ones for floors and 1/16th for walls. Anyone else skip the simple stuff and regret it later?

Man, ain't that the truth. It's funny how we're all walking around reinventing the wheel when the solution's been sitting in a hardware store for decades. I've noticed this with pretty much everything in life, not just tools. People think they can outsmart the basics and end up making things harder than they need to be. It's like that old saying about standing on the shoulders of giants, except we're all just tripping over the little plastic spacers on the floor.

The plastic spacer thing made me laugh because I did the exact same thing last month. I was trying to fix a wobbly table leg with folded up paper and cardboard scraps, spent an hour getting it right. My neighbor came over, took one look, and handed me a little pack of rubber furniture pads from his garage. Worked perfectly in ten seconds. Made me feel pretty silly, but it taught me a good lesson about checking the simple solutions first before getting creative.
