Drove 40 minutes to a guy in Mesquite for pecan splits or grabbed a bag of oak chunks at the grocery store
Went with the grocery store oak because I had brisket on at 5am and no time to kill, and the smoke came out flat and bitter by hour three. Should've just made the drive, since the pecan guy sells a wheelbarrow load for $60. Anybody else learned this one the hard way?
That "flat and bitter by hour three" thing is real, I read somewhere that grocery store chunks are usually kiln dried and lose a lot of the good stuff. That pecan price sounds like a steal, honestly.
