My offset smoker's firebox cracked right down the middle on Saturday
Was getting ready for a 20 pound brisket and heard a loud pop when I had the coals going. Found a 6 inch crack running from the grate down to the bottom. Had to throw the whole cook on my buddy's Weber kettle instead, and it just wasn't the same. Anyone else have a welder fix one of these or is it time to just buy new?

Ah man that sucks, I've been there. A buddy of mine welded his up and it held for like two more years before the whole thing rusted out. If the crack's clean and you know a good welder it might be worth a shot, but honestly for the price of a repair you're probably better off just grabbing a new one.

@emma96 yeah I used to be all about welding everything back together, figured it was cheaper and you keep the original part. but honestly reading through this thread kinda changed my mind. like you said, by the time you pay a welder and then it only lasts a couple years, you're basically just kicking the can down the road. plus if the metal's already that far gone there's probably more rust hiding where you can't see it. kind of a bummer but i guess new is the smarter move most of the time.
