Tried a pellet tube for cold smoking, got a backyard fog machine instead
Last Saturday I loaded up my Weber with a new pellet tube and some hickory to cold smoke a batch of cheese and salmon in Portland. I walked away for 20 minutes to grab a beer and came back to a thick white cloud that looked like my yard was hosting a haunted house, neighbors were actually checking if my house was on fire. Turns out I packed the tube too tight and it smothered itself, so has anyone else had this issue and found a trick to keep the smoke clean and thin?

Loosen the pellets up with your fingers before lighting, and let the tube burn with the end cap off for a couple minutes before you close the smoker. Also, set it on a wire rack so air can get under it.
