Called a weird noise on a 3-year-old furnace back in May and homeowner thought I was scamming him

I told him the secondary heat exchanger was going bad on his Lennox, and he said I was just trying to sell him a new unit. Two months later the carbon monoxide detectors went off and the whole street had to evacuate. Anyone else ever get brushed off for spotting a failure way early?

People don't like hearing bad news about expensive stuff. Sucks you were right but at least nobody died.

Wait, is it really worth risking a false alarm just to avoid looking wrong? I get the guy was upset, but being wrong about a furnace is way better than having his house fill with carbon monoxide.

May in Ohio? Had a Lennox do the exact same thing last summer. Nobody believes you till the alarms go off.
