Saw a tiny crowd at a Portland taco truck in 2019, now the line is 40 deep every night
I was going through old phone pics last week and found one from a trip to Portland in 2019. There was this little taco truck off SE Division with like 3 people in line, and I remember thinking the al pastor was stupid good. Fast forward to now and that same truck has a two hour wait and a whole feature in a food magazine. I took that photo as a joke for my brother and now it feels like a time capsule. Did anyone else here eat somewhere great before the internet found it?
Oh man, this hits different for me because I actually think the reverse is happening too. Those old hidden spots are getting wiped out, sure, but now the food truck that opened last year in my town is already packed because of one viral video, and it's not even that good. What gets me is how fast a spot goes from "nobody knows" to "can't get in" now, like months instead of years. Back in 2019 a place had time to grow slow, now one TikTok and it's over.
