I thought the hourly news radio update was enough, then I listened to the full 40 minute city council meeting
I used to just catch the 7am news radio update on my drive to work in Columbus and call it good. Last month our city voted on a new zoning plan and the radio gave it 20 seconds, so I pulled up the full meeting video on YouTube out of boredom. Turns out the three minute clip everyone was mad about was a guy reading a resident letter, and the actual vote happened 90 minutes later after a totally different debate about parking minimums. The radio never mentioned that part at all. Now I check the full recording before I get mad at anything, which is annoying but way less embarrassing. Has anyone else gone down this rabbit hole with their local government stuff?
Man, I did the exact same thing with our water rate hike last spring, spent a whole week griping about a number that turned out to be from a draft proposal, not the final vote. Sat through two hours of the recording after that and felt like a fool for ever trusting a headline. It takes way more time, but at least now when I complain I actually know what I'm talking about.
My buddy did the same thing with a school board meeting last year, swore up and down about some budget cut until he actually watched the whole thing and found out it was a totally different line item lol. Now he sends me timestamps like some kind of city hall nerd.
