I thought the new housing project in my town was a total win until I read the full council minutes

The headline said 'Affordable Units Approved', but the minutes showed they cut the number from 150 to 40 after a closed-door meeting with developers last month. Has anyone else had a local story where the details completely flipped it for you?

Cut from 150 to 40? That's not a cut, that's a gutting. Makes you wonder what exactly was said in that closed-door meeting. Our local paper did a similar thing last year about park upgrades, but the "upgrade" was mostly just removing benches. How did your town react when the real numbers came out?

You mentioned wondering what was said in the closed door meeting. I always check who was on the planning committee. Last time we had a cut like this, three members worked for the same contractor who won the smaller job. The reaction was quiet because most people never connected those dots. They just got mad about the benches being gone.

Did the local news even try to get a comment?

Getting a comment would have required them to show up. The reporter they sent spent maybe ten minutes here, took a picture of one empty bench, and left. My attempt to explain the whole thing was cut down to a line about "resident concerns." Makes me wish I'd brought a bigger sign or maybe just a bullhorn.
