The Wednesday my AC died in that 105 degree stretch in Dallas
It was the third week of July, temps hit 105 every day. My unit gave out around 2pm. I called 5 different HVAC places, the soonest anyone could come was Friday morning. So I spent 2 nights sleeping on the floor next to a box fan with a wet towel on my chest. The repair guy finally showed up and it was just a bad capacitor, $25 part and 20 minutes of work. Cost me $180 for the service call though. Has anyone else had a small part fail and cause a huge headache?

Blew the main fuse on my old unit once, $15 fix but I fried a whole Saturday sitting in a puddle of my own sweat waiting for the tech.

@lucast81 sounds about right, bet you felt real productive after that 'fix'. I once paid $80 for a diagnosis that turned out to be a loose wire I could have tightened myself.
