Used to nod along when people called Kurt Cobain a genius, now I just ask what they actually listen to
For a long time I went along with the idea that Nirvana was untouchable because saying otherwise felt like a losing argument. Then last summer I sat down and actually went through their three studio albums start to finish, and I counted maybe 6 songs I would choose on my own without anyone watching. A guy I work with in Akron wears the smiley face shirt every Friday, and when I asked him to name a single track off Bleach he went quiet for a solid ten seconds. I am not saying the band was bad, I am saying the worship got way ahead of the music for a lot of people. Does anyone here actually still spin those records, or is it mostly the idea of the guy we are all attached to?
Guessing your coworker also owns a Foo Fighters shirt but can't name a Foo Fighters song either lol. Ask him about the smiley face logo history next and watch him sweat. For real though, I still throw on In Utero sometimes but Bleach is the one nobody actually plays.
