Why do I keep going back to old cop shows when new stuff is out?

I used to binge crime procedurals like Law & Order all the time but after 3 years I got bored and switched to Netflix originals. Then last month I tried rewatching The Closer and now I'm hooked again, even though the picture quality is grainy. Has anyone else fallen into a nostalgia hole with a show they thought they were done with?

New shows are just the same junk with better cameras, stick with the classics that don't try so hard to impress you.

Whoa, wait, are you saying you think classic shows weren't "trying to impress you"? I mean, have you seen the hair and shoulder pads on any show from the 80s? They were absolutely trying to impress you, just with different stuff.

Wait, am I the only one who still remembers that sitcom from the 90s where the main character's whole personality was just wearing a leather jacket and sunglasses indoors? Those shows were totally trying to impress you with how cool and edgy they were. The hairstyles alone, like the giant perms and mullets, were shouting "look at me" from every angle. And don't even get me started on the sets, everything was so bright and colorful, like a toy store exploded in their living room. It's funny how people think old shows were some kind of pure art, but really they were just showing off with the stuff they had back then. I swear, every classic show had at least one episode where someone shows up in a tux just to go grocery shopping or something.
