Unpopular opinion: my $8 magnesium pills gave me the runs for 5 days before I figured out the dose
About 3 weeks ago I started taking magnesium glycinate at night to help with sleep, and I grabbed the 500mg capsules from the vitamin shop on Grand Ave. By day 5 I was running to the bathroom every morning and my stomach felt wrecked, so I went back and read the label again. The serving size was 2 capsules, not 1, so I had been taking a full gram a day which is way over what my body wanted. I cut it to one capsule after dinner and the stomach stuff stopped in 2 days, sleep is still decent. Has anyone else messed up a supplement dose like this, and do you split your pills or just go lower?
Question whether a gram of magnesium is actually a big deal since plenty of people take that much on purpose for constipation or muscle stuff. Five days of stomach issues sounds more like your gut just adjusting than some scary overdose, and cutting back probably helped because you changed something, not because 500mg was dangerous. The dose on the label is a serving size suggestion, not a hard limit, so maybe relax a little.
