Hot take: my shop goose has stolen more stock than any apprentice I've ever had
So about 6 months back I picked up a goose from a farm auction outside of Lafayette for 8 bucks, mostly as a joke, and named her Betty. She lives behind the shop and eats the slugs and copperhead babies, which was the whole point at first. Fast forward to last Tuesday and I'm forging a set of 12 wrought iron hooks for a customer, and I turn around for maybe 20 seconds to grab my flux. Betty waddles in, grabs a hook off the bench, and books it out the door with it clanging behind her. I chased that bird around the yard for 10 minutes while my neighbor just watched from his porch drinking coffee and laughing. She's now got a stash of 4 hooks, 2 punches, and a half eaten hot dog under the lean to. Anyone else got shop critters that cause more chaos than help? I'm starting to think she's smarter than me.
Bet you're wrong about her being smarter. You bought a goose for 8 bucks as a joke and then acted surprised when it acts like a goose. That bird isn't running some master plan, she's just grabbing shiny stuff because geese do that. You left a hot forge unattended and now you're blaming the livestock for walking into an open door. The real problem is you got 4 hooks and 2 punches sitting where a known thief can reach them, which is on you and not her. Lock your bench, close the shop, and stop giving a farm animal credit for outsmarting a grown man.
