Simple way to keep your anvil from walking away on you
I was getting so annoyed with my anvil shifting around after a few heavy hammer blows. I tried bolting it down, but I move my setup around too much. Last week I grabbed a rubber horse stall mat from Tractor Supply for about 40 bucks. I cut a piece big enough to sit the anvil on and it barely moves now. The rubber grips the floor and the anvil base way better than wood or concrete. Has anyone else tried this or found a better cheap solution?

Tried the same thing with a cheap rubber doormat from Home Depot and it worked like a charm. Stops the anvil from dancing around without needing to bolt anything down.

I saw a guy on YouTube try this with a stall mat from Tractor Supply too...

My brother-in-law actually used a horse stall mat from Tractor Supply - 3/4 inch thick and 4x6 feet - and cut it down for his big 150-pound anvil. He's got it sitting on a concrete floor in his garage workshop (not bolted down) and it barely budges even when he's really hammering heavy stock. The rubber grips better than I thought it would, especially if you rough up the underside a little with a wire brush first. Plus if you ever move it, you just roll it up and go. That Home Depot mat you mentioned works fine too - I've used those for other stuff but never thought to try it under an anvil.
