Sorting through my shed turned up a blast from the past

I found the first pair of tongs I ever forged. They're rough, but they hold a lot of memories.

Haha wow, those look like they were made by a caveman. My first tools were pretty rough too, all bent and rusty. They probably wouldn't grip a hot dog, but you gotta start somewhere. At least they have a good story.

Those bent tools @bettyramirez mentioned probably saw some real action, like getting used in a pinch for jobs they weren't meant for. I've seen pliers so worn down they were almost smooth, but they still got the job done on old farm equipment. It's wild how much character a beat-up tool can have, almost like each dent tells a part of its history. Makes you appreciate the build back then, even if it was rough.

Pliers worn down to almost smooth? That's hard to believe. How did anything even get gripped with those?

Shane's right about beat-up tools having character. I see this with old tech too, like a keyboard with worn-out letters or a mouse with a shiny spot from years of use. Those marks show it was someone's daily driver, a tool that got them through real work. It's like the object itself holds proof of all the hours put into something. Makes me wonder what my own first tools will look like in twenty years.
