Stopped by an old forge in Vermont (totally unplanned) and got a lesson on coal types.

The different burn rates really affect how I manage my fire now.

What made you stop at the forge in the first place? I've always found that knowing your coal can make a big difference in fire control. It's interesting how small changes in material can change your whole process. Have you tried using different coals for specific projects now? Do you think you'll stick with one type or mix them based on what you're doing?

Doesn't SKILL matter more than the coal you use?

It's just coal, right? How much difference can it really make. Seems like overthinking it.
