That $140 anvil stand I built saved my back but my wallet still hurts
Tbh I got tired of bending over my starter anvil on a stump, so I welded up a proper stand with legs at hip height using square tubing. Cost me $140 in steel and a full Saturday, but my lower back stopped screaming after a 4 hour session. Anyone else cave and buy a commercial stand instead of DIY'ing one?
How thick is the square tubing you used, and did you fill the legs with sand or anything? Curious because mine has a slight ring to it when I hit the anvil just right. That wobble at hip height would drive me nuts if the stand wasn't super solid, so I'm wondering if you braced the legs at all or just ran them straight down. Also what did you use for the top plate where the anvil sits, just flat bar or did you notch the tubing? Steel prices around here have been nuts lately so $140 for a full stand actually sounds about right.
