Tried quenching my 1084 in warm canola instead of room temp and the scale flaked right off
Had a batch of 5 knife blanks last Tuesday where half the scale stuck like glue, so I warmed the canola to about 130 degrees with a scrap bar and the difference in how clean they came out surprised me, has anyone else played with oil temp like that or am I just chasing ghosts?
130 is warmer than I've gone, I usually stop around 100. Did you check the temp right before the quench or did it drift while you were dunking the other blades? Curious if the clean scale is really from temp or from the scrap bar moving the oil around.
