Spent 3 hours trying to figure out the scoring in that new euro game

Got the new game 'Vineyard' last week and set it up with my group. The rulebook said scoring was simple but we kept getting different totals each round. We went back through every card and token three times before we realized the 'harvest' phase points were per set, not per tile. Has anyone else had a scoring rule just break their brain for way too long?

Oh man, scoring rules can be the worst. Had a similar thing with a game where you scored for connecting roads, but the rulebook picture showed it wrong. We played it wrong for a month, adding up points for each little road piece instead of the whole connected length. Felt so dumb when we finally saw the tiny footnote. That moment of sudden clarity is almost worth the headache though.

Ever wonder if rulebook writers get a kick out of hiding the real rules?

Right there with you on the rulebook footnotes. My group once argued for twenty minutes over a scoring detail that was literally in bold text on the next page. The shame really does make the correct rule stick in your brain forever.
