TIL the cardboard chits in my copy of Settlers were 2mm off and that's why nobody would trade with me
Hosted game night at my place in Denver last Friday and noticed my wheat cards never stacked right with the wood, so I got out a ruler and sure enough the punch sheet was cut at 56mm instead of 58. I emailed the publisher with a photo and they mailed a full replacement deck plus a spare set of roads within 4 days. Now I keep a cheap caliper in the game shelf, but does anyone else actually check their punch boards or am I just being weird about it?
How did you actually measure the cards without wrecking them? Did you pull the whole punch sheet out flat or just lay the ruler on top while they were still in the frame? I ask because I tried checking my Catan set once and the cards were so tight in there that I could not get a clean edge to line up. Also curious whether the 2mm gap showed up as a stacking problem only in certain colors, like did your wheat sit taller than the wood or was it more of a shuffle and sorting mess? The reason this matters to me is that I have a copy from a thrift store and the ore cards feel slightly slicker than the rest, which could just be wear, but now you have me wondering about the punch. Did the publisher ask for any proof besides the photo, like a receipt or the batch number off the box?
