A 30 year hand told me to stop hammering stays like that on a 60 inch shell
Was rolling a big mud drum section back in March and a guy named Ray who had 30 years on me watched me drive staybolts in with a 12 pound sledge and told me I was mushrooming the heads and wrecking the threads. He said use a lighter hammer and let the tool do the work, so I switched to an 8 pound and my reject rate dropped on the next 40 bolts. Still feel dumb about the ones I had to cut out. Any of you run into that same thing starting out?
