The difference a quality welding hood made on my burn rate
I ran a $60 Jackson for about three years and figured I was just slow at laying beads. Swapped to an Optrel Panoramaxx two months ago after a guy at the Local 74 hall let me borrow his on a job in Gary, Indiana. My repair rate dropped by nearly half because I can actually see the puddle without cranking the shade down. Anyone else notice how much a decent hood changes your workflow, or is it just me?

Heard this old timer at my local welding supply shop saying the same thing last week. He's been welding for like 40 years and told me a good lens is the most underrated tool in the box, no joke. The jump from a basic hood to something with auto-darkening and clarity is almost like learning to weld all over again, but in a good way. A buddy of mine at the hall still uses his old fixed shade and complains about his burns, but he won't listen to anyone about upgrading. Bottom line is, once you see what you're missing, there's no going back to those cheap hoods.

Hear that @theajohnson, it's the same with half the stuff people use every day. Most folks stick with what they know and just put up with the hassle instead of trying something that actually works better.

Never thought about how the cheap hoods might actually be CAUSING people to develop bad habits from squinting all the time.
