Thermal camera on my last boiler job saved me 6 hours of welding

Old boiler at a school in Tacoma. Had a tiny crack in a tube sheet we couldn't find. Spent all morning with pressure tests and dye. Nothing. Buddy loaned me his FLIR. Hot spot showed up in 2 minutes. Cut out a 4 inch patch instead of pulling the whole bundle. Anyone else use thermal for leak hunting or is it just me?

Huh, I read electricians use them for finding hot breakers all the time.

Buddy of mine tried that in his dad's old fuse box. Zapped himself pretty good and threw the screwdriver across the garage. Told me he sticks to the test light now.

Funny how often the right tool just cuts through the headache like that, isn't it. Seems like half the time we're fighting with old methods when a little tech saves the day.
