I threw $60 at a book club guide on Etsy and it was pure garbage

Thought I was getting detailed discussion questions for a Sally Rooney novel but it was basically just the Wikipedia plot summary with some clip art. The seller had hundreds of 5 star reviews too, which makes me wonder if those people even read the book.

Did you check if the reviews mentioned the actual content or just the seller's shipping speed?

Oh, absolutely. People leave glowing reviews for a five star shipping experience on a three star product all the time. It's the reviews that mention typos or missing chapters that actually tell you what you're getting.

Wait, has anyone else noticed that the people who write super long reviews about the packaging and how fast it got there are probably the same ones who rated a book they never even opened? Like, I bought a cookbook once that was missing every recipe for things you'd actually want to cook, but the reviews were all "came in perfect condition!" and "shipping was so fast!" It's like they reviewed the box instead of the book. And yeah, the people who complain about typos and missing pages are literally doing you a favor because they actually looked at the thing.
